Flat Gap was a small, unincorporated community in 1970 and remains so today. The Coalition’s 1970 health fair was one of the smaller fairs conducted that summer. For reference, students provided about 140 physical assessments in Flat Gap and Big Spring combined, compared to over 800 provided in Briceville alone. It’s located in a valley south of most other Coalition activity that summer, just north of I-40 and east of Knoxville.
