Special Project July 26, 1982 – August 5, 1982
Williamsburg, Ky. was the site of a special project in August of 1982. The town is located in Whitely County in the Eastern Mountain Coalfields of Kentucky (13 miles north of Jellico, Tenn.). The Coalition was invited by the Friendship Center to help design and conduct health education classes. The community center had a health program focusing on prevention. The staff RN was particularly interested in dental care and hypertension. Four students spent 2 weeks designing classes and visiting community and senior citizens in Kentucky and Tennessee. The Friendship Center stills exists in Williamsburg with a thrift store and community outreach program, and has a Facebook page.
