J.W. and Kate Bradley

jw_katebradleyMarried in 1951, J.W. and Kate Bradley grew up, lived, and worked in Petros, Tennessee. Both wanted to give back to their community, which at the time only had a prison, and not much else. J.W. started Save Our Cumberland Mountains (SOCM) in response to the strip mining that began in the area. Kate helped out by cooking for the events J.W. organized. This was around the same time that Kate Bradley began trying to secure land for a local health clinic. J.W. and Kate received encouragement and support from Bill Dow and the others Student Health Coalition and Vanderbilt. The health clinic Kate helped open remained in Petros for many years.
