1. Origin and Development of the Student Health Coalition (SHC)


2. The Student Health Coalition in West Tennessee

The Coalition work in West Tennessee took place in social, cultural, and historical settings that differed markedly from those in East Tennessee. This timeline helps to set the stage with information about how and when community leaders in West Tennessee contacted the Coalition, the support they requested, and the context within the larger narrative of civil rights struggles and the legacy of a slave economy that characterized the delta.


3. Health Fairs in St. Charles, Va. and Establishment of the St. Charles Clinic

The Coalition work in St. Charles was distinguished by a strong local board and a history of robust union presence. Over time, the clinic at St. Charles became the nidus for a region-wide network of community-run clinics in southwestern Virginia. This timeline helps to identify people, places, and dates as this development unfolded.

This timeline lists events of Vanderbilt’s Center for Health Services (CHS) from the earliest days throughout its several decades of work.
