Appalachian Sustainable Development (ASD) aims to “build a thriving regional food and agriculture system that creates health communities, respects the planet, and cultivates profitable opportunities for Appalachians.”  Examples of recent work include the Farmer PRIDE Coalition to support LGTBQ+ farmers and food producers in the region to boost food access.   June 28th  (2023) was national Give OUT Day, promoted by ASD, a day specifically dedicated to LGBTQ+ giving.

2023 Grant Recipient:  The 2023 Legacy grant provided an incentive to secure matching donations to support this work.  It also helped ASD to deliver more food boxes to at-risk families in southwestern Virginia and northeastern Tennessee residents.

2022 Grant Recipient:  With grant funds from the Legacy fund, ASD was able to increase support for local families to grow fresh, healthy food in a home-based backyard and market gardens.
